F+F Coat

Dec. 8th, 2009 | 09:28 pm
posted by: uiggu in egl

Hey guys, I've pretty much left Lolita since I graduated university (oh the irony given that I live in Japan with it all at my fingertips!) but I still love girly beribboned things, and this coat from F&F caught my attention as being cute without too -out there-, and more importantly, something that could feasibly be worn with jeans & boots. (zomg.)

So, does anyone own it? Has anyone ever bought a custom size? I've never ordered from F&F before, and given the horror stories about 12-metre-long sleeves (I exaggerate), I'm slightly nervous. Especially as it's not exactly cheap! Should I take my 16,000 yen/$160 to Marui instead?

Any info/experiences/photos welcome. TIA!

Passing On The Torch

Dec. 8th, 2009 | 04:22 am
posted by: missmeganmaude in egl

I've been the administrator of this community for five years, and, in that time, a great deal has changed. When I took over the community in 2004, I believe there were just over 3,000 members, and today we have over 13,000. Running this community has evolved into a full time job, and at this point in my life, I don't really have as much time as I would like to give to the daily tasks that make things run smoothly around here. There are so many changes that I would liked to have implemented lately, and I simply haven't had the time.

Back in 2004, owning just one piece of anything brand was a status symbol because it was all so hard to come by, and now the ownership of brand is practically expected. The face of the fashion has changed so much. There was actually a debate way back then about whether polka-dots were lolita or not, and now I don't think there's any doubt about their status. In 2005, Angelic Pretty came out with their first super sweet advertisement, and people railed on about how it was far too princess-y and sweet and how they didn't want that kind of thing in their lolita. Now, super sweet is the standard, and what used to be considered sweet is actually thought of as classic. While I have enjoyed the evolution of the fashion and the community, I've never been much for the really sweet lolita, and I don't wear brand because I'm too tall. While I'm still very much into lolita, I feel that it's time to pass on the torch to someone who is more personally involved with the current trends and interests of the community.

I've been thinking about handing the community on to someone else for about a year, but there were no clear choices. The people who seemed best-suited to the task of administrator-ship didn't have the time or energy for it. However, after we brought on the new moderators in March, a promising possibility quickly presented itself. After a great deal of careful observation, thought and consideration, I will be handing this community to [info]laiferr as the administrator. I will also be leaving [info]idealia in the new position of vice-administrator. Both of these ladies are very active and level-headed and I'm confident that they will do an excellent job steering this community into the future. I have put a great deal of time and love into this community, and I feel that [info]laiferr and [info]idealia will do the same.

I will be sticking around in the mod community to help ease the transition, and I will be revamping the community FAQ since it's a bit out of date. However, otherwise I will be completely retired from moderating the community. I'm excited to see where our new administrator takes things, and I hope that you will all warmly welcome her to her new position.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to voice them.

Mashimaro Girl/ An*tai*na Boots Review

Dec. 7th, 2009 | 11:42 pm
posted by: lyrique86 in egl

On September 20th, I participated in a group order and bought these boots through [info]mashimaro_girl . I just received them on Sunday, so I thought, I'd share my experience.

La la la, you know you wanna click me )

So in summary--

Communication: 3/5 -- I never asked personally why it was taking so long, but neither did Mashimaro offer up any explanation. So bad communication on both our parts I think
Shipping: 5/5 -- Mashimaro took very good care of my boots once they were being shipped. And they emailed me the moment they arrived.
Construction: 4/5 -- Shoes are never perfect, and these more than met my expectations, considering the amount I paid.
Overal Experience: 4/5 -- I would definitely order from this company again, and I'd use Mashimaro to do it!

I hope this helped some of you. Good luck with your next purchases!

SO IT SEEMS LIKE, DUE TO FINALS AND OTHER THINGS THAT HAPPEN DURING THE WEEK, THE BEST DATE MAY BE THE 19TH
IF YOU HAVE POSTED BEFORE PLEASE STATE WEATHER OR NOT YOU CAN GO ^_^
It still seems pretty split between the 18th and 19th and I want to get as many people there as possible!
here is an example of things to do: *For those who want to do high tea or want a beverage!* NOTE: THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR "REAL FOOD" The tea things seems pretty split, some people want it other don't so we might as well just do both! <3
-After paddingtons we go to the beverly center, shop around etc. At around 4 we go for some "real food" and then see the movie at around 6?
Any adjustments please feel free to include them <3 all of your thoughts are well appreciated!

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately with our last release, and its instability, we were forced to roll back releases. Unfortunately in doing so, it would seem that our notification system has been broken somehow. Our engineers are working on this issue as quickly as possible. We hope to have a patch within the next day, so we can deploy our code and fix the notification system at the same time. Please *bear* with us ;)

Currently all notifications are being queued up so they can be processed as soon as the fix is pushed and verified to be working correctly.

Thank you,

"Lolis love their cake!"

Dec. 7th, 2009 | 11:59 am
posted by: flyingvisions in egl

I'm wondering about those who don't... I mean like, I don't mind cake but I don't love it.

On the lolitafashion forums there's an entire section dedicated to Cooking and Recipes and it says "It's a well-known fact that lolitas love cake!" This kind of feels like the whole '... and you should always be polite and sweet and cutesy and drink tea all the time!!!' To me it's another way for people to assume that fashion dictates how you should behave.

Cupcakes, pastries, ice cream etc... Does anyone feel 'pressured' into eating cake because they're a lolita? Or to pretend that they love it more than they actually do? There are plenty of people who love cake and their eyes light up like a kid on x-mas morning when someone mentions cake but I highly doubt every lolita is like that.

Then there's the argument of 'well you DO at least like cake right? So what's the problem?' It's like how women used to be banned from entering sciences in colleges and the argument was 'well women don't like science anyways so what's the problem?'

Personally, I would never buy a cupcake from a supermarket... usually there is like, an inch of icing on top which frankly makes me nauseous just thinking about it. I prefer the more 'gourmet' and fancier desserts like crème brûlée but even then it's an indulgence.

Thoughts?

Velvet Fading?

Hi everyone. I hope this isn't too off topic!
I have a question about a black velvet purse that I've had for many years. About five years ago it started fading around the edges to an ugly purplish/brown color, and so to fix it up I colored in the faded areas with a permanent marker. >.< Anyway, that looked okay for awhile but the markered areas soon turned a reddish color. Here are some pictures.

Does anyone know how I could stain the velvet black again?
Thank you!
